Carmen Grice Williams - Artist's Statement
For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in many areas and media of Art. I have
used clay, photographic plates, printmaking, water color and even dance to express my passions. For the last few years,
creating using water media and handmade paper has inspired me to capture and express my love of nature. Biomorphic,
natural shapes dominate my work in landscapes, cactus, blossoms, butterflies and birds.
Our wonderful desert is constantly inspiring. Since coming to this special place I have enjoyed
exploring the southwest with it s variety of light, shadow and austerity. My intense interest in landscapes and biomorphic
images is a result of my studies of Georgia O'Keefe and other exceptional women artists. I have also been powerfully
influenced by the color and design of Frida Kahlo.
